Biograpgy of Geshe Tenzin Jangtön
Geshe Tenzin Yangton was born in Dolpo Nepal. When he was 9 years old he began to study in his village with his uncle Geshe Tashi Gyaltsen Yangton and completed a 3 year retreat. After the retreat he remained in his village for 3 years assisting Geshe Lama Tashi. When he was 16, he traveled to Triten Norbutse Monastery in Kathmandu and studied with Yongdzin Rinpoche for about 3 years. He became a monk when he was 18. Geshe Tenzin Yangton received many teachings from Yongdzin Rinpoche: Ngondro, Grammar, various Rituals, how to construct Stupas and Mandalas, and he received many oral transmissions including the Zhang Zhung Nyen Gyu.
In 1992, He went to Menri Monastery near Dolanji, India to study at the traditional dialectical school. Immediately upon arriving, he began assisting Menri Ponlop Trinley Nyima Rinpoche, and has been his active assistant until the present. In 2006, Geshe Tenzin Yangton completed his 14 year course of Bön Buddhist textual study of philosophy, exegesis, and debate, and received his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate). For the past several years, Geshe Tenzin Yangton has traveled throughout the US and Europe as Ponlop Rinpoche's assistant.
